Layering skincare correctly ensures maximum absorption of active ingredients and prevents product “pilling.” The universal rule of thumb is simple: apply products from thinnest (watery) to thickest (heavy creams/oils), followed by SPF during the day.
1.Step 1: Cleanse:Cleansing.
Start with a clean canvas. Use a gentle cleanser in the morning, and double-cleanse at night (oil cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser) to remove makeup, sunscreen, and pollutants.
2.Step 2: Toner or Essence:Prep & Hydrate.
Toners and essences balance skin pH and deliver a burst of hydration. Apply to damp skin to help subsequent products penetrate deeper.
3.Step 3: Serums & Actives:Targeted Treatments.
This is where active ingredients work their magic. Apply lightweight, water-based serums first (e.g., Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, or Retinol).
Note: Allow actives 1–2 minutes to absorb before moving to the next step.
4.Step 4: Eye Cream:Delicate Area Care.
Dab a pea-sized amount around the orbital bone using your ring finger. Applying eye cream before heavy face creams prevents blocking the thinner skin around the eyes from absorbing active ingredients.
5.Step 5: Moisturizer:Locking It In.
Moisturizers seal in hydration and strengthen the skin barrier. Choose a gel for oily skin or a rich cream for dry skin types.
6.Step 6: Sunscreen (AM) or Facial Oil (PM):AM Protection / PM Seal.
- Morning Routine: Sunscreen is always the final step of your daytime routine. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ generously.
- Evening Routine: If using a face oil, apply it last over your moisturizer to lock in all previous layers.
